Judd McMahan of Wood River Organics produces a variety of salad greens and vegetables on five acres. Growing in the high elevation of the Wood River Valley, the farm focuses on a niche market in mid-summer for lettuce and salad greens. The farm also produces carrots, beets, tomatoes, and cucumbers. In the spring, Wood River Organics offers an on-farm sale of tomato and other vegetable starts.
 
With such a focus on greens production, Judd developed a food safety plan early in the life of the farm. This year he is excited to add a new conveyer system to his greens processing line.
 
Judd builds soil fertility through cover cropping and on-farm composting. He uses a cover crop mix of peas, vetch and oats and has recently begun adding New Zealand white clover to his walkways.
 
Wood River Organics sells through the Ketchum and Hailey farmers markets, Atkinsons’ Market, Boise Co-op, Idaho’s Bounty, and restaurants.
